How are companies reacting to the recession

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Given the economic climate, most companies out there have to react and make cutbacks. In a recent article, below were the findings of a survey of organisations

- Cutting back on recruitment – 69%
- Cutting back on company events – 55%
- Cutting back on bonuses – 45%
- Layoffs – 34%
- Cutting back on training – 33%
- Hiring high performing employees from competitors – 9%

I thought the final point was interesting in that there are opportunities out there. The first port of call should be competitors in the sector your experience is in!

Linkedin.com – Professional Social Networking

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Millions of professionals are using LinkedIn to share professional advice and experiences, company details and contact information, often for recruiting purposes. HR Managers & Recruiters have turned to online forums, email lists and message boards to sound off on information related to their industries

Increasingly, as job searching in Ireland evolves , more and more recruiters ( internal and recruitment consultancies ) are using online professional networking sites such as linkedin to source new talent. In my opinion, the more you put into Linked In, the more you will get out of it. It takes time and tenacity when job searching, but I would highly recommend it as a tool for job searching and identifying outplacement consultants

Professional Services Firm gets buy in for future changes to T&Cs

Friday, April 17th, 2009

One of the leading professional services firms ha secured buy in from employees to allowing management change employee contracts over the next year. When investigating the option of sabbaticals or reduced working week there was significant buy in from employees. Rather than forcing changes to T&Cs, this organisation has taken a proactive approach which should provide damage limitation if the need arises in the future

Great to see that large reputable organisations are considering alternatives to redundancy.
